Police exam tips So you have decided that you want to become a police officer, or maybe you have known it all along but now you have decided to do something about it. Passing the police exam is one of the first steps in the hiring process you must take in order to obtain the career of your dreams.  Passing the police test isn’t exactly rocket science but more people than you would think fail the initial police entrance exam. The following article will dispense some police exam tips for taking the test as well as some tips for the police hiring process. If your serious about passing you police exam I suggest reading through this entire ebook, it has practice tests and all sorts of tips for the police tests and hiring process.Having personally passed numerous police tests in the state of California on my first attempt within the last few years, I will give you exam tips and certain study methods as well as a few informative links that I have found very helpful in my police hiring process. This is a quick no BS look at tips that will actually help you pass your exam.
Before the test

Weeks or even months before the test just read, and then read some more. Read something that you actually enjoy reading so that the experience does not become tedious and un-enjoyable. Make sure to check out any study guides that are offered by your local police force.  Try not to stress too much, stressing out will not help you out in any way. Passing the test will seem more feasible when you don’t stress and do a little reading. Being prepared can do wonders for your confidence and score.

Arriving to the test

Map quest your destination and make sure you arrive early, DO NOT BE LATE to your police exam! Upon arrival to your local police written test remember to act professional, and look the part as well. Don’t be a loud mouth, curse or be obnoxious. Come in business or semi business attire. I have seen people get turned away and or ridiculed by recruitment officers that were present at the exam. Dont fail your exam before you even get a chance to take it.

The test itself

In all the tests that I have taken during my hiring process, reading comprehension as well as vocabulary and spelling are main aspects of the exams. Of all the police tests that I have taken in California I have never come across anything more than a basic math section. Basic in the sense that there is no calculus or trig, do study up on fractions and percentages though.

What helped me out on the comprehension end was to actually read the answer choices first, some people read the paragraph first but I found reading the choices before the paragraph really helped. Don’t rush these questions, there’s plenty of time.

You may think that you are a decent speller and that you understand things fairly easily, but some aspects of the test are situations or words that you have not seen or spelled in a while. An example would be words like Lieutenant, warrant, Wednesday and deceased. Pay special attention to a words suffix, whether or not the word ends in ant, or ent. The links provided will explain when to use which. Also, don’t rush the test or worry if you see other people finishing before you, this is not a race. I also purchased this book Barron’s Police Officer Exam (Barron’s Police Officer Examination)

its cheap and loaded with practice tests.

Conclusion

This was a brief overview of some police exam tips. Follow the links I have provided to get more tips and info for passing your police exam as well as the hiring process. I will write more articles in the future about the other steps involved in becoming a police officer, the police hiring process, as well as some interesting experiences I have had with various police departments. Becoming a police officer isn’t exactly easy, but there are a few things that you can do to make the process less stressful than it already is.After all the police exams, oral boards, polygraph tests, there is one element that people often overlook, being in shape. Lets say that you pass your tests, interviews and everything is going well, once you get to the academy you have to do a lot of running and physical exercise. Here are a few programs that helped me get in better shape and prepared me for becoming a police officer.

Everybody trying to become a police officer should start a diet and muscle building program, start with the one I highlighted above. Pushup program, there is a pushup program available on the internet that will get you on track to do 100 pushups within a few months. If you stick with this program your pushup quantity will be up to par, there’s lots of pushups in the police academy. The site is hundredpushups dot com. I cant do 100 pushups consecutively yet but I went from doing about 30 to around 75 which was a big improvement for me, I didn’t follow the entire program either so take that into consideration.

Running, you will do more running in the academy than you have probably done in a long time unless you’re a marathon runner or something. There’s a program called the couch potato to 5k that will get anyone ready for the running that is required in the academy. There are other advanced programs out there but this one will definitely get you on the right track.

The last program that I would highly recommend would be the p90x. This thing is intense and will get you into great shape. Most people that I know do not finish the entire program which is about 3 months, but for those that do, the program does wonders. I personally lost about 20 pounds and my strength went through the roof.

Well that’s it, those are the programs that I implemented in my police prep strategy. Even if you decide that you do not want to become a police officer, being fit and healthy is a great feeling and will help in whatever career you chooses to pursue. Police Exam Tips-Police Oral Board

The police oral board is the nail in the proverbial coffin for many applicants.  To be very honest with you I failed my first police oral board due to over confidence, and it was a wake up call to say the least. I have always been a great talker and very articulate, but to my dismay I did not receive a passing score, so I actually read up and prepared for my next few oral boards which I passed with 90s and above.

The police oral board isn’t bad at all if you know what to expect. Here are a few tips to help you pass your oral board. Arrive early, this is self explanatory. For men, shave the weird beard or rockin side burns, trust me on this one. You may want to have that cool stache or goatee for the weekend but it will grow back.

If you have tattoos, make sure they are covered up. We all know that you think your tatt is cool and everything but your police oral board attendees will probably disagree with you.

Shake every ones hand when you walk in, if you have sweaty hands make sure you do a quick wipe on your pants or something, Sweaty palms are kind of gross.

Know all about the police force that you are applying for. This means know who the chief is, who is next in line, special task forces, when the force was established etc.

Make sure you answer the questions like you are already a police officer. We all know you wouldn’t tell on your friend/partner of x amount of years for taking a coffee, but you have to b straight edge, that’s just the deal.

These are just some tips for passing your police oral board, I suggest you check out this manual, police oral board for more tips, potential questions and an even more in depth look at the police oral board. It has great info and can boost your scores up to ensure you pass your oral board. Thanks for reading and don’t forget to check back here at police exam tips for more insider info!

Police Exam Tips 2

Here at police exam tips we not only give you tips for passing your exams but we shed light on other aspects of the police hiring process for the hopeful. I have received a few questions from people asking what I felt was beneficial to me before my exams, although there was not one thing that I felt helped me over the rest, here are a few tips that I feel are beneficial to any police officer hopeful.

I recommend talking to multiple recruiters for your respective agencies. Each recruiter will offer insight into your potential career and will have different experiences to share with you. Each recruiter may also offer his or her own police exam tips for you to consider. They can’t tell you what exactly is on the test, but exams do change a bit periodically and the officers may know what that particular tests emphasis may be on.

Go on multiple ride a longs. Ride a longs are when a potential candidate can ride with a police officer for a few hours and get an idea of what exactly being a police officer entails. Ask questions and be courteous, these officers can give you some great info and tips to help you become an officer.

Take as many practice tests that you can. These tests entail what will be on your exam, while they may not be word for word, they do give you a good idea on what you may need to work on. Practice tests can be found all over the internet as well as at your local PD.

Obtaining a police career is not an easy task, many police hopefuls do not make it on their first try. Stick with it and remember that it’s a learning process, if you fail, learn something from that experience and come back equipped with more knowledge for your next time around.

Make sure to check back here at police exam tips and feel free to email any questions that you may have about the police hiring process.
